Step 4: Enlist your team with big requests
- Set aside 30 minutes and pick one or two important requests you’ve made of others. For each request, write out how you articulated the five elements of a clear request:
- What was requested?
- Why is it important?
- Who will do it?
- By when?
- How will the outcome be assessed?
- Was anything missing from the requests you made? If so, what conversation do you need to have to fill in the gaps?
- Have a conversation with your boss about making it safe to give them a yes or a no. Use the outline above to guide your conversation.
